Introduction: Because aflatoxin is very resistant to heat and this toxin easily enters the human body through the food chain and consumption of dairy and livestock products and causes poisoning, it is necessary to seek solutions and materials to reduce the side effects of aflatoxins. This study investigates the combined effects of turmeric and garlic extract for this purpose for the first time in this context. It is hoped that new results can be achieved to improve and reduce the risks of toxins, given the antioxidant role of these two substances. The aim of the present study is to investigate the combined effects of turmeric and garlic extract in improving the harm caused by aflatoxin B1.
Materials & Methods: In this experimental study, 3 factors were investigated, each with 2 levels. Including two levels of aflatoxin B1 (0 and 100 micrograms per kilogram of body weight), 2 levels of turmeric (0 and 100 mg per kilogram of body weight), and 2 levels of garlic (0 and 50 mg per kilogram of body weight). Therefore, the total number of treatments was 8, and 8 replicates were considered for each treatment, and the total number of experimental units was 64 rats. On day 28 of the experimental period, rats were anesthetized with ketamine, and after opening the thoracic cavity, blood was collected from the heart. Plasma samples were analyzed to determine the levels of uric acid, creatinine, protein, albumin, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, GGT, LDH, LDL, and HDL.
Results: The results showed that aflatoxin B1 significantly increased the activity of lactate dehydrogenase, gamma-glutamyl transferase, creatinine and LDL in serum.
Conclusion: Treatment of infected rats with turmeric extract and garlic extract significantly reduced lactate dehydrogenase, gammaglutamyl transferase and LDL, compared to aflatoxin B1 treatment. Garlic extract was able to significantly reduce the serum LDL level of rats.Therefore, the findings of the present study indicate that the use of a combination of turmeric and garlic may reduces the harmful effects of aflatoxin B1. |
