Introduction: If left unmonitored and untreated, crystalluria can lead to the formation of urinary stones and subsequent kidney complications in pets. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of urinary crystals in dogs and cats in Rasht, Iran. Materials & Methods: This quasi-experimental study included 50 dogs and 50 cats from the Baran Veterinary Clinic in Rasht. A 5cc urine sample was collected from each animal for urinary sediment analysis to detect crystals. The samples were then compared based on variables such as gender, age, breed, nutritional status, and crystal type. Results: Uric acid crystals were found in 38% of cats and 26% of dogs. Among cats, calcium oxalate dihydrate was the most common type of crystal (47.4%), followed by struvite crystals (36.8%). In dogs, struvite was the most prevalent (46.2%), with the majority (83%) being female. The analysis of dog breeds (p=0.91) and cat breeds (p=0.25) in relation to crystalluria type did not reveal a significant correlation between these two variables. Conclusion: Considering the significant incidence of uric acid crystals in Rasht, it is essential to take preventive measures and treatments. These measures can include providing a diet for pets and monitoring their urinary system health status.
